SEL-2505
Remote I/O Module
- The SEL-2505 Remote I/O Module is designed to reduce installation costs, improve employee safety, and increase system reliability in substation and industrial environments. This module provides a solution for simplifying extensive copper wiring and eliminating high-voltage risks from control cables by remotely transmitting the contact inputs and outputs of existing protective relays over fiber-optic cables.
Key Features
-
MIRRORED BITS® Communications
Communicates with remote devices using two optical fibers, where each contact input controls one of eight transmit bits, and each of the eight receive bits controls an output contact. -
High-Speed Control and Monitoring
Provides eight digital contact inputs and eight contact outputs with a fast response time of approximately 10 ms for trip, close, and other control schemes. -
Rugged Environmental Durability
Operates over a wide temperature range of -40°C ~ +85°C and features a robust design that exceeds IEEE C37.90 and IEC 60255 protective relay standards. -
Versatile Voltage Options
Supports a broad range of digital input voltages, including 12, 24, 48, 110, 125, 220, and 250 Vdc, to accommodate various system environments. -
Long-Distance Communication
Supports communication distances up to 80 km (using single-mode fiber) depending on the fiber-optic port option (V-pin, ST multimode, or single-mode).
Convenience features
-
Wiring and Cost Reduction
Replaces up to 32 large-diameter copper wires between a control building and remote equipment with just two optical fibers, significantly reducing material and labor costs. -
Maximum Safety
Using nonconductive fiber-optic cables instead of high-voltage copper wiring negates the risk of dangerous voltages entering the control enclosure and protects personnel. -
Intuitive Diagnostics
Allows real-time verification of communication and I/O status through front-panel LED indicators, with a Lamp Test button for easy verification of LED functionality. -
Easy Installation
Designed with a small form factor for efficient mounting inside space-constrained control enclosures. -
Low Maintenance
The solid-state design with no moving parts minimizes potential points of failure, ensuring long-term reliability backed by SEL's high quality standards.
