SEL-2741

SEL-2741

Managed OT SDN Switch
  • The SEL-2741 is a managed Ethernet switch designed with robust security features specifically for harsh operational technology (OT) environments, complying with IEEE 1613 and IEC 61850-3 standards. It features 24 high-speed ports (10/100/1000 Mbps) and fully supports OT SDN (Software-Defined Networking). This allows for the implementation of a Zero-Trust architecture within substations and critical infrastructure, ensuring the ultra-fast recovery performance required for real-time control applications.

Key Features

  • Zero-Trust and Deny-by-Default

Unlike traditional switches, the SEL-2741 blocks all unauthorized communication by default. Only traffic flows explicitly permitted by the SDN controller are allowed, fundamentally preventing the lateral movement of threats that may have entered the internal network.
  • Elimination of Vulnerable Protocols

The switch removes the need for traditional protocols that rely on auto-learning and broadcasts—such as MAC address learning, RSTP, and ARP. This eliminates common cyberattack vectors like MAC flooding, table poisoning, and ARP spoofing.
  • Whitelist-Based Communication

By managing communication between authorized devices, ports, and protocols via a whitelist, the system immediately detects and blocks unauthorized device connections or abnormal traffic.
  • Flow-Based Micro-segmentation

It enables granular network segmentation. Beyond just IP or MAC addresses, communication paths can be isolated at the service level, maximizing security segregation.
  • Physical Security Lock

The device includes two digital inputs that can control the factory-default reset and settings lock functions. This adds a physical layer of security to prevent unauthorized hardware-level configuration changes.

Convenience features

  • SEL-5056 NMS (Network Management System)

Instead of configuring individual switches manually, the central management software allows for the deployment of entire network settings at once. An entire IEC 61850 network can be configured within minutes by importing network drawings or SCD (Substation Configuration Description) files.
  • Automated Circuit Provisioning

This prevents security vulnerabilities caused by human error during manual data entry and significantly accelerates the deployment of large-scale systems.
  • Enhanced Situational Awareness

All communication flows within the network are visualized in real-time. This allows operators to see exactly which devices are communicating, enabling rapid response to any anomalies.
  • Real-Time Telemetry Monitoring

The system continuously collects and provides system health and traffic data via a dashboard, offering clear evidence for security audits and incident analysis.
  • Easy Field Conversion

Designed to allow a field conversion from traditional RSTP to SDN while in operation, providing the flexibility to incrementally strengthen security during system modernization.
